We are seeking a skilled Accounting Manager with a background in public accounting to join our dynamic team in Kansas City. The ideal candidate will thrive in ambiguous situations, be effective working independently, and bring valuable experience in navigating fast paced and dynamic environments. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting and finance principles, particularly related to software-as-a-service (SaaS) businesses. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of BERKS Group's Education Technology portfolio companies (including WorkForge) and play a critical role in driving their success.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform month end close processes, including preparing and posting journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, and ad-hoc reporting and analysis
  • Prepare monthly internal financial statements and other reports needed to help Company leadership prepare for monthly Business Unit Reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and review annual operating budgets and forecasts
  • Review client contracts to ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee the accounts receivable process and support BERKS’s shared services team to ensure that they maintain billing schedules, send invoices timely and accurately, and reconcile invoices to revenue and client contracts
  • Oversee the accounts payable process and support BERKS’s shared services team to ensure that they prepare vendor billing schedules, reconcile and accurately code invoices, and other related vendor payment related tasks
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of internal financial controls to mitigate risks and improve operational efficiency
  • Analyze complex data to help Company leadership identify opportunities for financial and operational synergies
  • Stay informed of changes to accounting standards and regulations, and ensure internal policies remain compliant and aligned with industry best practices
  • Manage annual external audits and support tax filings, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and contribute to ad-hoc projects as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ relevant accounting experience. Public accounting experience and exposure to SaaS preferred
  • Understanding of US GAAP, particularly ASC 606, and other key accounting and financial reporting frameworks
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel. Experience with other accounting and ERP software preferred
  • End-to-end process orientation with project management and problem-solving skills. Ability to address issues, own the outcome, and continuously strive for excellent processes and deliverables
  • Ability to work independently, thrive in ambiguous situations, and appropriately manage priorities of multiple project and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex financial topics and collaborate effectively across teams

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as needed.
